Lahaina Pali Trail via East Parking Lot

This out and back route provides you some great views of Kahului, inbound airplanes, and the east side of Maui (in the distance). There is minimal shade, but on breezy days the wind does bring some relief from the heat. Just bring plenty of water! Hiking in the morning is probably the most pleasant experience.

The trail, starting from the East side parking lot.

Trail parking lot.

Grass fields and rocky dirt trail

Closest thing to a shade tree on this route

Looking back on the area south if Kahului

Knobbled volcanic stones pave the way

You have to pick your path carefully at times

About a mile into the hike it becomes more flat and less bumpy

The trail never completely smooths out however

The reddish brown volcanic dirt probably gets slick when it rains

You walk for a short distance on what appears to be an access road for the wind turbines

Rejoining the trail after a tiny respite on the road

This sign marks the top of the trail

Looking towards Maalaea Bay

This road marks the end of the East side trail

One last view of the turbines and West Maui before heading back

Kaho-olawe in the distance
